Chatham-Kent’s mayor isn’t surprised by the tightening of COVID restrictions as the municipality’s numbers continue to rise.
Mayor Darrin Canniff says the upward trend is concerning, especially given the increased pressure being put on the local health care system.
“It’s one of those things. When you look at the hospital, it’s filling up. I mean, we’ve got 15 people in the hospital from it, and that’s what we’ve been trying to avoid over the last year and a half,” Canniff says.
Starting Friday, social gatherings will be limited to 10 people indoors. Tighter restrictions are also being placed on weddings, funerals, and other religious services.
“Everyone’s frustrated with it, everyone was looking forward to a kind of normal Christmas,” Canniff says “I know I’ve had to change some family plans, we were looking to get the families together, and we won’t be able to do it with as many people as we could.”
Bars, restaurants, and organized sports are not affected.
