A unique experience for senior elementary students across Chatham-Kent.
On Wednesday, January 28, students from more than 35 grade 7 and 8 classes had the chance to take part in a virtual meeting with Chatham-Kent Mayor Darrin Canniff.
Each 45-minute conversation touched on whether students planned to stay in CK, go elsewhere for post-secondary school, and, for those who planned to leave, if they thought they might come back to work later in life.
Students also heard from a panel of local professionals who have built meaningful careers in Chatham-Kent, including those who chose to return to the community after pursuing education or work elsewhere.
“Showing our youth the many opportunities available in Chatham-Kent, both for lifestyle and careers, is incredibly important,” said Mayor Canniff in a news release. “When young people understand the pathways to meaningful work and see the innovative industries growing here, it helps them imagine what their future could look like in Chatham-Kent. Whether they stay or return later, we want them to know they always have a place here.”
This session was delivered in partnership with local school boards and supports the work of the Job Preparation Action Team, managed by the Municipality of Chatham-Kent’s Community Attraction and Promotion department.
