Mayor Wants Country Music Awards Held In CK

Chatham-Kent may be throwing its hat into the ring to host a major country music event within the municipality.

Mayor Darrin Canniff said the municipality is working on an application to submit Chatham-Kent as a possible venue for the Country Music Association of Ontario (CMAO) Awards in 2028-2030.

“We got wind that the Country Music Awards is looking for a home,” he said. “Certainly, it’s something that I’d love to see come to Chatham-Kent.”

Canniff said possible venues for the event could include the John D. Bradley Convention Centre, the Capitol Theatre, or the Kiwanis Theatre

“I don’t know all of the logistics of it — do they need one venue, do they need several? But that’s what we’re exploring,” he said.

A proposal will be submitted to Chatham-Kent Council in the near future for deliberation, as there will be a cost associated with the application.

The CMAO Awards celebrate excellence and outstanding professional achievement by Ontario country music artists and songwriters.
