McAllister Officially Named GM of Community Development

Bruce McAllister is formally taking over the reins as Chatham-Kent’s General Manager of Community Development.

It’s a position he’s held in an interim role since the summer following the departure of former GM John Norton.

Chatham-Kent’s CAO says even with nation-wide search to fill the position, McAllister remained the best person for the job.

“In the end, the interview panel was unanimous in selecting Bruce as our preferred candidate,” CAO Don Shropshire says. “Bruce’s in depth knowledge of our community, his strong relationships with Council, Municipal colleagues, developers and a host of community stakeholders set him apart from all of the other candidates.”

McAllister started his career with Kent County in Planning Services. He then spent twenty years in the private sector with Storey Samways and Dillon Consulting Ltd.  He returned to the public sector in 2015 serving as CK’s Director, Planning Services and most recently as Acting General Manager, Community Development.

He says planning for the municipality’s future growth remains a key priority.

“Despite the various challenges related to COVID, there are a number of exciting projects currently moving forward,” McAllister says. “I am looking forward to the opportunity and this next chapter in my career.”
