The controversial corner will soon be undergoing another change with the temporary traffic lights set to come down once all work on the Lord Selkirk Bridge is finished in the next month or so.

“They are temporary and I’ve suggested people look at them, because you can tell when you look they’re actually wooden poles and lower than standard,” McGregor says “They say ‘just leave them,’ well we can’t just leave them. They could be replaced but we can’t leave them.”

McGregor says there’s no guarantee any potential motion to install permanent traffic lights will get the go-ahead from the rest of council, but it’s up to local residents to voice their concerns.

“If they’re willing to work at it like they did last time, I’d be happy to bring it back to council,” McGregor says. “But we need those active parents, more than juts Aaron and I going and lobbying for it. We need those active parents, the ones that wold be willing to come and talk to council at the right time, if a motion goes through.”

Officials with Chatham-Kent’s Engineering and Transportation Department say the lights are scheduled to be removed once the rest of construction is finished on the Lord Selkirk Bridge, which is expected to be within the next three to five weeks.

Once the lights are removed, the plan is to reactivate the existing pedestrian crossing signal.
