Yesterday (Wed. May 11th) marked McHappy Day for local McDonald’s Restaurants. At all the locations in Chatham-Kent, the total raised for the Ronald McDonald charity reached $14,885.
Manager at the two Wallaceburg McDonalds locations, Julie Lee said the Wallaceburg restaurants raised $3,187 through the sales of Big Macs, Coffee and Happy Meals. Lee added that the Wallaceburg total eclipses last years record of $2,500.
One dollar from the purchase of each is directed towards local children’s charities, primarily through the Ronald McDonald House of Southwestern Ontario.
The Ronald McDonald House of Southwestern Ontario provides a welcome, supportive and secure environment to out-of-town families of seriously ill or injured children who are in London receiving medical treatment for their child.
In 2010 alone, 552 families from across Southwestern Ontario made nearly 1,153 visits to London’s location, calling the Ronald McDonald House of SWO their home away from home during their stay. 38 families from Chatham-Kent and 48 more from Sarnia-Lambton utilized this service last year.
Ronald McDonald House of Southwestern Ontario provides a home away from home where guest families can focus their attention on their ill or injured child and family.
It offers safe, low-cost accommodations in a welcoming atmosphere for families residing outside of London who have children receiving treatment from any of the area’s health care centres. The first priority is to provide a secure and stable environment for families during this stressful time.
Ronald McDonald House Southwestern Ontario will be part of a network of love that started 35 years ago in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in the United States and which now encircles the globe. Ronald McDonald House, a world-recognized brand name synonymous with caring and compassion, is the cornerstone of Ronald McDonald House Charities® (RMHC). Each night, more than 11,000 families are accommodated in one of the almost 300 Ronald McDonald Houses in this network.

Ronald McDonald House Southwestern Ontario is managed by a dedicated professional staff that, while small in number, are large in heart. It is also supported by a full complement of hardworking volunteers and led by a committed Board of Directors.
