As the rain continues to fall over Chatham-Kent, local conservationists are keeping a close watch on area waterways.
The St Clair Region Conservation Authority has closed the McKeough Dam as water levels on the Sydenham continue to rise.
Both the Lower Thames Valley and St Clair Region Conservation Authorities say the area has received up to 40mm of rain so far, with another 20 expected before the rain tapers off later today.
With rapidly climbing water levels and swift moving currents, residents are reminded to steer clear of rivers and streams.
While some low-lying roads have been closed in Chatham-Kent and Lambton County today, officials say additional roads may be impacted tomorrow as well as flows peak in many areas of the watershed.
Municipal emergency response staff and road superintendents should review emergency response plans and monitor local conditions closely.
