McNaughton Introduces Paid Sick Leave In Ontario

Monte McNaughton, Minister of Labour, Training and Skills Development.

Local MPP and Labour Minister Monte McNaughton had some good news for workers across Ontario this afternoon.

He announced full-time and part-time workers who need time off due to COVID-19, will get it.

Workers will now be eligible to receive up to $200 a day for three days under a new temporary provincial sick leave program.

The legislation will be introduced tomorrow, and it has been dubbed the Ontario Covid-19 Worker Income Protection Benefit Program.

It will be retroactive to April 19th.

The province has also reached out to Ottawa to top up the payments to the Canada Recovery and sickness Benefit.

The Ford government wants to see that go from $500 a week to $1,000 a week with Ontario footing the bill for the extra money.

So far no response from the feds.
