Lambton-Kent-Middlesex MPP Monte McNaughton knows expectations are high as he settles into his new role as Ontario’s Minister of Infrastructure.
McNaughton says all MPPs have been instructed that any promises they made on the campaign trail must be kept.
“I hit the ground running as Infrastructure Minister, reaching out to our federal counterparts over the weekend [to] the Minister of Infrastructure for Canada because there’s a funding component there,” says McNaughton. “And [I’ve reached] out to mayors across the province and receiving hundreds of e-mails and calls about roads and bridges and schools and hospitals that communities want built. So we’re going to set a priority listing the days ahead and we’re going to start focusing on all these issues,”
McNaughton says he will continue to advocate for issues like water wells, wind turbines, and highway safety, and hopes to have some news in the weeks ahead.
“I’ve long advocated those positions, as well as Bob Bailey and Rick Nicholls and Doug Ford on the campaign trial. We’ve been clear that we’re going to keep those commitments. There will be more said about each of those specifically in the days and weeks ahead. My position hasn’t changed certainly, and Doug Ford has said we’re going to keep our campaign promises,” says McNaughton.
