Lambton-Kent-Middlesex MPP Monte McNaughton has let the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change know of his concerns when it comes to water well safety in Dover.
McNaughton says he’s looking for some concrete steps to be taken.
“Specifically coordinate the testing and have the Ministry pay for that testing,” McNaughton says. “That would be in the best interest of the people of North Kent, it’s what the Municipality of Chatham-Kent Council is asking, and I support that.”
McNaughton has heard anecdotally of ‘astronomical’ costs for water well testing, some ranging around $200, and others as high as $2,000.
He says he doesn’t believe the province is taking the issue of contaminated well water seriously.
Chatham-Kent Mayor Randy Hope sent a similar letter to the Ministry last week as well.
