More than 200 train passengers were briefly stranded in Thamesville last week after their locomotive suffered mechanical failure.
According to VIA Rail Canada, a train travelling from Toronto to Windsor was carrying 211 passengers when it broke down in Thamesville at around 3:10 p.m. on Friday.
VIA Rail responded by securing buses and coordinating with emergency services in Chatham-Kent to safely deboard the passengers.
Chatham-Kent Fire and Rescue attended the scene to assist with the evacuation, which began at 5:40 p.m. Fire officials noted that the response was not an emergency situation.
All passengers continued to their destinations by bus and were provided a full refund for the trip, along with a travel credit for future trips, VIA Rail said.
