A medical isolation tent is being installed in the parking lot at the Walpole Island Sports Complex.
The Walpole Island First Nations Council says the Emergency Control Group and council have been working together on options for an isolation facility.
The tent has been provided by the federal government to assist those who need to self-isolate but are unable to without putting others at risk.
First Nations Council says their hope is that the number of local cases stays low and they don’t need to use the tent, but “it’s important that we are prepared in case the need the arises.”
Officials will take advantage of the arena’s facilities including washrooms and showers, if necessary.
Deliveries of hand sanitizer and face masks are also expected in the next couple of days and will be delivered for program use and for community distribution.
Walpole Island residents with questions or concerns surrounding COVID-19 or self-isolation are encouraged to call the Health Centre at 519-627-0765.
Walpole Island council thanks the community for their continued diligence.
“Miigwech for your dedication to making Walpole Island a safe and vibrant community.”
