A local man is facing impaired driving charges after being stopped by police in Leamington.
The Ontario Provincial Police said on Thursday at around 2:27 a.m., an officer confronted the driver in the area of Talbot Street West and Erie Street South as he was getting out of his vehicle.
After speaking with the driver, the officer noticed that he was showing signs of impairment and arrested him. The driver was then taken back to police headquarters for further testing.
As a result, a 27-year-old Merlin man has been charged with operating a vehicle while impaired by drugs and alcohol, and · driving with a blood alcohol concentration over 80 mg.
The accused was also issued a 90-day driver’s licence suspension and his car will be impounded for seven days.
He has since been released with a future court date in Windsor.
