Merv Jaques turns 80 today, and to celebrate, he’s going for a walk.
It’s not just any stroll though, it’s a 42km walk in support of Ronald McDonald House.
Jaques says walking literally saved his life.
“I got diabetes back in 1982 and they told me I should walk, So I did,” Jaques says. “I started walking, very slowly, very deliberately, until someone said to me ‘This is your life so get out there and get going.’ I took that to heart and I kept going.”
The fundraiser goes Saturday at the St. Clair College Healthplex in Chatham, and Jaques expects it to take a little more than six hours.
