A local aviation celebration is returning to Chatham-Kent Municipal Airport this summer, hoping to provide a “glimmer of hope” to the community.
Flight Fest on August 6 will feature aircraft displays, children’s activities, and live music which will be headlined by country music icon and Chatham-Kent native Michelle Wright. The family-friendly event kicks off at the airport at 9 a.m., with opening ceremonies taking place at 10 a.m.
The theme for this year’s event is “Hope Is in the Air” which will highlight humanitarian efforts locally, in Canada, and internationally.
“We are excited to provide a glimmer of hope to our communities and businesses after the recent years of shutdowns and restrictions,” organizers said in a news release.
The day portion of the event will consist of a variety of static aircraft displays that will include biplanes, an aerobatic helicopter, world-renowned warbirds, and jets from yesteryear. Attendees will also get to see multiple aircraft arrivals and departures throughout the day, and speak to the aviators who fly them.
In the evening, Flight Fest will switch to live music featuring Dan Bremnes, the Original Eagles Tribute Band and Hotel California. Michelle Wright will close out the event with the final performance.
