Millions of dollars’ worth of drugs have been seized at the Blue Water Bridge in Point Edward.

Officials with the Canada Border Services Agency have released details of two significant seizures in the past month.

On August 13, a commercial truck driver who was coming into Canada was referred for secondary inspection, where border services officers found six boxes filled with an estimated $18.8 million dollars in suspected cocaine. The driver, a 28-year-old from Brampton was transferred to the custody of the RCMP.

The following day, another transport coming from the US was found to be carrying 199 kilograms of suspected cocaine in the trailer of a commercial load, with an estimated street value of $24.9 million. The 38-year-old driver from Etobicoke was also transferred to RCMP custody.

Both of the accused have since been charged with Importation of Cocaine, and Possession of Cocaine for the Purpose of Trafficking under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.
