More concerns are being raised about facemasks given to staff at Fairfield Park, this time from the Ministry of Labour.
Inspectors visited the Wallaceburg long term care home on Monday following complaints about the staff being given non-medical grade masks while the facility is dealing with an outbreak of COVID-19.
Management at the long term care facility released a statement earlier this month, saying a shipment of masks had been mislabeled and were pulled from use.
The Ministry’s report suggest some discrepancies, including a manufacturer’s report on the masks in question referring to a different brand.
As part of the report, the inspector noted “There are no indicators on the test report that correspond with the brand/model of masks in question. Discrepancies noted on the test report include the brand as Alloves and the number 200047224. The brand of masks observed at the workplace labelled as non-medical is called AIRE. The number on the mask box is 6973390520004.”
The Ministry has written orders against Fairfield, requiring further investigation and verification that it complies with requirements for medical or surgical masks.
“The employer shall have the AIRE brand mask, numbered 6973390520004, further examined to obtain validated information related to performance criteria and use of the masks in the workplace. This testing shall be performed by a person or laboratory with knowledge and experience and qualifications for testing such materials. At the time of the field visit there was no testing documentation available for the AIRE brand masks.”
Fairfield Park has until March 10th to comply.
