Dan Miskokomon is back at the helm of Walpole Island First Nation.

Miskokomon has been sworn in as Chief following Saturday’s band elections, garnering 287 votes. He previously served as Chief for three terms before being replaced by Charles Sampson in 2020.

12 members of Bkejwanong First Nation have also been elected to band council, including Brennan Altiman, Deborah Isaac, Lee “Qua” Jacobs, Burton Kewayosh, Cody Misokokomon, Marsha Miskokomon, Clint Peters, Muriel Sampson, Bronson Soney, Shirley Tooshkenig, Amy White, and Elaine Wrightman.

A swearing-in ceremony was held at the Walpole Island Sports Complex last night.

First Nations councils serve for two year terms, unlike their federal, provincial, or municipal counterparts.
