A Chatham man has been slapped with a hefty fine and a 10-year animal ban after mistreating four dogs in his care.
According to Provincial Offences Court documents, 24-year-old Isaac Asiedu was convicted on 36 of 37 charges under the Provincial Animal Welfare Services Act on August 27.
The offences leading to the charges involved two one-year-old dogs and two one-month-old puppies and were committed in February and March of this year.
Asiedu was found guilty of permitting an animal to be in distress, failing to comply with prescribed standards of care such as food and water, failing to provide an adequate sleeping area, failing to provide adequate sanitary conditions, and failing to fail to cooperate with an animal welfare inspector. He was also convicted on multiple counts of failing to comply with an imposed order under the act.
The Ministry of the Solicitor General has declined to provide further details about the offences as the case remains within the appeals period.
Asiedu has been fined a combined total of $11,250 and is prohibited from owning or having custody of any animal for 10 years.
