Mitchell’s Bay Charity Run To Support Mental Health Initiatives

The memory of a local farmer and first responder is being honoured with an upcoming charity run in support of mental health.

The Hard Miles Run, a 5/10K walk/run/bike event, will be held on June 17 in Mitchell’s Bay.

The event was created by the family of Dalles Bergsma, a Dawn Euphemia firefighter and farmer who tragically took his own life in November 2020.

Bergsma’s passing was the catalyst for the creation of a charity called “Three Oaks Cabin,” which will address the mental health struggles, emotional fatigue, or trauma experienced by farmers and first responders in the community.

The Bergsma family is in the process of building a respite log home in a woodlot on the family farm, where farmers and first responders can find a tranquil place to rest, reflect and reorient. The cabin is expected to welcome its first guests in October.

All proceeds raised through the Hard Miles Run will support the Three Oaks Cabin build and I’ve Got Your Back 911.
