Officials with the Mitchell’s Bay Area Association are hoping Chatham-Kent council will approve their request to approach Canada Post about changing the community’s mailing address.

Currently, those living and working in Mitchell’s Bay use Dover Centre in their postal address. A report going before Chatham-Kent Council on Monday night cites the confusion that comes from the two areas actually being several kilometres apart as one of the main reasons behind their request.

The report also mentions that since Chatham-Kent defines Mitchell’s Bay as a Secondary Urban Centre in its Official Plan. The change should be implemented seeing as all the other Secondary Urban Centres have Canada Post mailing place names, like Bothwell.

If the motion gets voted through and Canada Post approves the change, residents will be given  at least 30 days’ notice.
