A special ceremony is being held this evening to honour missing and murdered indigenous women and girls across Canada.
The Red Dress Day vigil at the Bleak House on King Street West in Chatham will include prayers, a smudge, hand drums, and special guest speakers.
Red Dress Day was founded as the REDress project in 2010 by Indigenous artist Jamie Black, using empty dresses to represent the women who should be wearing them.
Tonight’s vigil, organized by the Ska:na Family Learning Centre, 7 Generations Indigenous Cultural Friendship Centre, Women’s Equity Business, and TJ Stables, runs from 7 until 8pm.
