A major donation will help parents and newborn babies in Chatham-Kent.
Through the Mocha Shriners of Shriners International, $51,738 will be used to purchase High Intensity Phototherapy Lights for jaundice, a Bilisoft Bili Blanket for jaundice for the Women and Children’s Program in the Pediatric Unit at CKHA, as well as sleep chairs for family staying with Pediatric patients at the hospital.
“Phototherapy is a highly effective treatment for infant jaundice, and the High Intensity Phototherapy Lights and Bili blanket purchased from this donation will give the Pediatric Unit a greater capacity to administer this treatment,” said Caen Suni, VP Clinical Programs & Operations at CKHA. “We are so thankful to Mocha Shriners for this generous support which will allow to the unit provide the highest level of safe, quality care to our Pediatric patients and their families.”
The gift comes from the estate of an anonymous donor associated with Mocha Shriners. Officials with the organization say the generous individual was a Chatham-Kent resident who requested the money be used to help children in the community.
“As an organization, we are committed to supporting healthcare and helping kids in need from across our region. Purchasing much-needed medical equipment is a key part of that mandate,” stated Potentate Illustrious Sir Randy MacNevin and Treasurer Noble Robert Rossi of Mocha Shriners. “We are so grateful to be in a position to be able to offer this assistance, and we are thankful that this gift will be put to such good use here in Chatham-Kent.”
“Mocha Shriners have a long and rich history of supporting local healthcare across the region, and their dedication to helping children in need is truly inspirational,” said Mary Lou Crowley, President and CEO of the CKHA Foundation. “The equipment that will be purchased for the Pediatric Unit at CKHA through this donation will have a profound impact on countless local families with young children, and we are deeply grateful to Mocha Shriners for their support.”
