Local residents continue to push back against the proposed Otter Creek Wind Farm.

Last week, MPP Monte McNaughton presented a petition in the legislature signed by hundreds of people from the Chatham-Kent and Lambton County area.

“We believe that environmental studies to date have been insufficient with regards to species at risk, and we believe that studies to date have been insufficient regarding the adverse effects of wind turbines at Otter Creek to migratory birds and water fowl”, says McNaughton. “We are also concerned about the construction methods required for the Otter Creek site [which] are similar to those being employed in the construction of North Kent Wind One where 14 water wells have now been contaminated due to vibration”

The petition calls on the province to stop any further plans or construction until environmental concerns have been addressed.

McNaughton says, “We the undersigned petition the Legislative Assembly of Ontario to take immediate action to stop any construction or construction planning for the Otter Creek wind farm until the above mentioned environmental concerns, particularly the issue of water quality safety, are re-examined by expert consultants mutually agreeable to MOECC, Municipal Council of Chatham-Kent, and the residents affected by the proposed wind farm development. I wholeheartedly support this petition.”
