Additional residents who have been displaced since the summer following a devastating Chatham apartment fire will soon be returning home.
The Municipality of Chatham-Kent has been working to support nearly 100 tenants who were left homeless in the wake of the blaze at 99 McNaughton Ave. W. on August 25.
As a result of these efforts, tenants in sections D and C were able to return to their apartments in mid-November and December.
Municipal officials now say residents in section A will be able to return to their apartments by late February or early March, with exact dates yet to be confirmed.
Work also remains ongoing in section B, where the fire occurred. The municipality said it is currently in the process of tendering reconstruction work, with an anticipated completion timeline of late 2025.
All tenants who have not yet returned to their apartments have made temporary or alternate housing arrangements.
