The province is kicking in just under $1.7 million to help with the increase in numbers using shelters and to help the most vulnerable.
The pandemic has caused an increase in the numbers using the local shelters.
“As the weather is still below zero on some nights, it is important to keep our vulnerable citizens, who rely on shelters to stay warm, COVID free,” Rick Nicholls, MPP for Chatham-Kent-Leamington says. “As numbers begin to increase in some emergency shelters, it is our responsibility to help these vulnerable people with the funding support they need, and this will sequentially aid in reducing the curve amongst other populations.”
“In times of crisis, it’s important we continue to look out for the most vulnerable members of our community,” says Monte McNaughton, MPP for Lambton-Kent-Middlesex. “This funding will ensure Chatham-Kent has the resources needed for the final push to defeat COVID-19 while supporting those at risk of being left behind.”
The most recent funding is part of an additional $255 million the province is spending through the Social Services Relief Fund.
The money will be used to hire more staff, and purchase more PPE to keep everyone safe.
