More COVID Deaths Reported in Chatham-Kent

Two more Chatham-Kent residents have lost their lives to COVID-19.

The most recent deaths bring to 66 the number of local residents who’ve succumbed to the virus since the pandemic began.

In its first update since before the Easter long weekend, Public Health is reporting 215 high risk cases, raising the seven day average to 28 new cases a day.

Three new outbreaks have been reported, one at Village on the Thames retirement residence in Chatham, and a pair of group homes. In all, five group homes across Chatham-Kent are currently dealing with a COVID outbreak.

There are 22 COVID patients at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance today, down from 26 on Tuesday. Seven of those patients are being treated primarily for the virus, and three are in the hospital’s progressive care unit.

The current COVID patients in hospital range in age from 28 to 96.

Across Ontario, 1662 people are hospitalized with COVID-19, 203 of whom are in intensive care.
