A local man initially thought to be the victim of a Chatham home invasion is now facing drug trafficking charges.
The Chatham-Kent Police Service said officers responded to an address on Taylor Avenue on Saturday at around 9 p.m. after two people gained entry to a home and demanded property from the occupant before fleeing the scene.
Following an investigation, officers with the Intelligence Unit executed a search warrant at an unspecified residence on Sunday, seizing 29.61 grams of suspected methamphetamine, 41.5 grams of suspected cocaine, and 131 capsules of Nabilone. An estimated street value has yet to be determined.
A 68-year-old Chatham man, who was initially identified as the victim in the home invasion, was arrested Tuesday on Taylor Avenue and charged with three counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking. He has since been released from custody with conditions and an August court date.
Another suspect, a 25-year-old London man, was also arrested in connection with the home invasion on with the home invasion over the weekend, after he was apprehended by a concerned citizen. He faces similar drug trafficking charges after a separate search warrant was executed.
An investigation remains ongoing as police work to identify an additional suspect believed to be involved in the home invasion.
