A scam targeting seniors is making the rounds once again.
Officials with Chatham-Kent Crime Stoppers say several complaints have been made over the past week about the so-called Grandparent Scam. Victims are contacted by someone claiming to be a grandchild in distress, saying they need urgent help and asking for money, gift cards, or cryptocurrency.
Authorities are urging local residents to protect themselves and their loved ones with reminders to never sharing personal information with unknown callers, never send money without verifying the story, and take some time to think about the situation since scammers rely on catching their victim off-guard.
Anyone who has information on a scam or someone who may have fallen victim is urged to contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477, or visit www.ckcrimestoppers.ca and submit an anonymous tip.
