Chatham-Kent’s hospital is continuing to bolster its ranks with new staff and volunteers over the summer months.

The Chatham-Kent Health Alliance (CKHA) has welcomed 19 new employees and two new volunteers to the hospital during a recent monthly staff orientation, on par with previous months.

“One of the things that we continue to be diligent on is making sure that we’re bringing in and recruiting the staff that we need at the hospital,” said CKHA President and CEO Lori Marshall.

The new staff members include 10 registered practical nurses and four registered nurses, as well as new employees in security, mental health, respiratory therapy, and diagnostic imaging.

“Very often these are individuals where this is their very first job in health care, and on the post-pandemic wave of things, for me, that’s pretty incredible that health care remains a place people want to come, work, contribute and provide their service,” said Marshall.

The staff vacancy rate at the Health Alliance at the end of July sat at 7.52%.
