A Leamington woman has been charged after she was allegedly found to be driving with more than twice the legal limit of alcohol in her system.

The Chatham-Kent Police Service said an officer spotted a vehicle stopped in a lane of traffic along an unspecified section of Wheatley Road between Tilbury and Wheatley on Monday, shortly before 11 p.m.

The officer spoke with the driver, who said she had stopped to respond to a message on her phone. However, the officer saw that there was alcohol present in the vehicle and conducted a roadside sobriety test.

When the driver registered a fail, she was taken to police headquarters where she provided two breath samples that registered 220 mg and 210 mg of alcohol in 100 ml of blood.

As a result, a 30-year-old Leamington woman is now charged with driving with a blood alcohol level over the legal limit (80 mg). She was later released from custody with a future court date.
