More local residents will be getting their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine today.

A mobile clinic, which is fully booked up, is being held at Wallaceburg’s Memorial Arena.

Public Health spokesman Jeff Moco says the mobile clinics run on the same model as the mass vaccination clinic at the Bradley Centre.

“The biggest difference that people might see is just that it’s a different physical location, but how people flow through the system…it should be 25-30 minutes at the most.”

For those who couldn’t get an appointment today, more opportunities are coming.

The Chatham-Kent Ontario Health Team and its partners are holding a vaccine clinic at the Tilbury District Family Health Team offices in Tilbury on May 27th for anyone 18 and older. using the Moderna vaccine. To book an appointment, call 519-682-2307 x303.

Then on Thursday, June 3rd, a clinic hosted by the Chatham-Kent Community Health Centre will be held at the Wallaceburg office on Dufferin Avenue. That is also for anyone 18 and older, and will be using the Moderna vaccine. To book an appointment at the Wallaceburg clinic, call 519-397-5455 x322.

Moco says while the majority of people have been booking their appointments online, the call centre is also available with a team of 10 people returning calls as quickly as they can. To book an appointment at the Bradley Centre mass vaccination clinic, call 519-351-1010 or visit getyourshotck.ca.

With more age groups now eligible to book, and pre-registration for those 12-17 for upcoming family-friendly clinics, Moco says there’s been a big surge in demand this week.
