More Work Coming to the Lord Selkirk Bridge

More work is coming to Wallaceburg’s Lord Selkirk Bridge.

The McNaughton Avenue span over the Sydenham River will be shut down again for two days next week on Tuesday, September 8th and Wednesday, September 9th as crews fix up the steel deck grating.

Chris Thibert, Chatham-Kent’s Director of Engineering and Transportation Services, says this is the final planned closure for the bridge.

“As part of the project warranty work, the new open steel deck grating needs to be welded in more locations to ensure the open steel deck grating panels do not bounce under traffic loading,” Thibert says in an email to CKXS News. “This bouncing was observed through our continual inspection of the bridge as part of the warranty maintenance period.”

Thibert says there are no safety concerns associated with the with grating, but if left unattended, the panels won’t last their design life expectancy.
