A word of warning for those planning to head to the beach to cool off this week.

Between June and September, Chatham-Kent Public Health collects water samples from the seven municipally maintained beaches, testing for e-coli.

While most of CK’s public beaches have been given the all clear, the latest results from July 10th show high levels of bacteria at Mitchell’s Bay Beach.

Public health officials also warn that water quality can be reduced following heavy rainfall or high winds and waves in the pat 24 to 48 hours.

Advisory signs urging caution are posted at all beaches where high levels of bacteria are found. Public Health will post closure signs if there is a significant risk to health and safety.
