Despite what social media comment sections might suggest, it appears most Chatham-Kent residents are leading relatively happy lives.

Statistics Canada recently released an interactive map showing quality of life indicators based on census data from the Canadian Social Survey collected between April 2021 and June 2024.  The Canadian Social Survey is a voluntary, cross-sectional, quarterly survey that collects information on well-being, health, time use, confidence in institutions, and other social issues.

According to the survey, 53% of Chatham-Kent residents reported a high life satisfaction, 57% felt a strong sense of meaning and purpose, and 56% had a strong sense of belonging to a local community.  That sense of community also extended to 78%, who indicated they often or always have someone to count on.

Overall, Ontario residents reported a 45% overall life satisfaction.
