Several charges have been laid a motorcycle rider fled from police officers in Tilbury.
The Chatham-Kent Police Service said officers responded a retail store on Queen Street North in Tilbury just before 1 a.m. on Saturday, after a man selected merchandise and left without making an attempt to pay.
Using a description of the man, officers on patrol located a suspect riding a motorcycle. However, when they attempted to pull the driver over, he fled. A short time later, the motorcycle was found abandoned on its side on Middle Line, east of Whittle Road.
After running the licence plate, police with the OPP attended the home of the registered owner who claimed the motorcycle had been stolen hours before. However, following an investigation, the man allegedly admitted to his involvement in the Tilbury incidents.
The 28-year-old Essex man turned himself in at police headquarters on Sunday and was charged with flight from police, failing to remain at the scene of an accident, failing to report an accident, driving without a licence, and driving without insurance.
He will answer the charges in court in April.
It is unknown if the accused will also be charged in connection with the theft or if another suspect remains outstanding.
