Chatham-Kent Councillor Steve Pinsonneault is temporarily stepping away from Chatham-Kent council, as he sets his sights on a higher political role.

At Monday’s council meeting, Mayor Darrin Canniff read a letter from the Ward 3 councillor, saying he was taking a leave of absence from council until May 2 so he can focus on running as a candidate in the Lambton-Kent-Middlesex riding’s current provincial by-election to replace former MPP Monte McNaughton.

Pinsonneault was named the Progressive Conservative candidate in January, and did double duty, actively campaigning and undertaking his municipal council duties, up until when the by-election was called last week.

Pinsonneault will not be paid for the four weeks he is away from council.
