Lambton-Kent Middlesex MPP and Minister of Labour Monte McNaughton says last week’s $252 million in funding to the agriculture industry is a far cry from what is needed.
Especially in our local ridings that rely on the ag sector economically.
“It’s huge. It’s our number one industry,” says Monte. “The government’s announcement last week was clearly disappointing to farmers.”
Monte says he’s been in discussion with many local farmers as well as the Ernie Hardeman, the Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs.
“We are working behind the scenes to pressure the federal government, but also to make an announcement soon to some relief from the province,” says McNaughton.
The Canadian Federation of Agriculture initially asked for $2.6 billion in funding.
Prime Minister Trudeau has said the $252 million is just the first step.
