No serious injuries have been reported following a multi-vehicle collision on the 401 near Ridgetown.
Shortly before 4 o’clock Thursday afternoon, Elgin OPP reported that emergency crews had been called to the scene near Victoria Road and both east and westbound lanes were shut down for roughly two hours as authorities conducted their investigation and worked at clearing the road.
Constable Brett Phair says a total of nine vehicles were involved in both directions. A total of 12 people were involved in the collision with five taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Phair says a small weather system was moving through the area at the time, resulting in a rapid change in road conditions.
“You need to be aware that the weather, road conditions, traffic conditions can always change on a dime, but especially this time of year, unexpected and rapid changes are going to happen,” Phair said. “We need everyone to remain vigilant and make the adjustments that are necessary to make sure you get home safely to your families.”
