The St Clair Catholic District School Board is looking to sell off some of its surplus schools, and the municipality may be interested in buying.
With a new English Catholic elementary school set to open in the fall, the board has put four schools – St Joseph, St Vincent, St Agnes, and Monsignor Uyen – up for sale.
One potential use could be re-purposing the old schools and turning them into affordable housing. The issue was broached with the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing at the recent ROMA conference in Toronto.
In a report to council, part of Monday night’s agenda, the municipality could submit what’s called an ‘expression of interest’ to the board before discussing a former purchase offer, including purchase prices.
