With Chatham likely no longer having a ServiceOntario outlet, Chatham-Kent is looking to operate and manage the Chatham ServiceOntario office to fill the void on an interim basis.
The office in Chatham is scheduled to close next week, and with the provincial process to select a new service provider expected to take several months, it could be an inconvenience for Chatham residents looking to renew driver’s licences and Ontario Health Cards.
Chatham-Kent is in talks to enter into an interim agreement with the province to operate and manage the ServiceOntario outlet, as well as sublease it on a temporary basis.
The current Chatham service provider closed in August and then agreed to continue the operation of the office until October 1.
Chatham-Kent has been talking with the province to discuss potential solutions to prevent a service disruption for local citizens.
