While most political watchers are focused on the upcoming provincial election, things are heating up at the municipal level as well.

The nomination period for the October 24th Chatham-Kent election officially opens on Monday, May 2nd.

The nomination form must be accompanied with 25 endorsement signatures. Filing fees run $200 for the Mayor’s seat, and $100 for councillor or school board positions.

Nomination papers may be found online, at the Civic Centre at 315 King St. West in Chatham, or any Municipal Centre.  For more information on offices that nominations may be filed for visit www.chatham-kent.ca.

The deadline to file is 2pm on August 19th.

Until candidates file a nomination, it is unlawful to raise campaign funds or incur campaign expenses.
