Municipal Officials Remind Property Owners to Keep Sidewalks Clear

A heads-up for property owners as snow is expected to fall on Chatham-Kent in the next few days.

While Public Works crews will be keeping tabs on area roads and plowing sidewalks, municipal bylaw 178-2019 requires all property owners and occupants, other than those within Downtown Business Areas, are required to pre-treat their sidewalks before snow or ice begins and de-ice within 48 hours of a snowfall.

Municipal officials say it’s best to clear snow before it settles and packs down, chip ice during the day when it is softer and easier to break, and use sand or salt to increase traction or melt ice from the sidewalk.
