Municipal officials are still mulling over mandatory vaccinations for certain sectors.

Following direction from provincial government, Chatham-Kent CAO Don Shropshire says they’re working on a policy for positions like ambulance service personnel.

“We have not got all the details yet, people dealing with high vulnerability populations, there’s going to be a requirement for policies to be developed for people to get vaccinated, and there are a couple of exclusions to that, other things that could be considered.”

Shropshire says there are some who have medical reasons not to be vaccinated, and that will be taken into account.

“There’s still over 20% of the population that has not received their vaccinations yet. Everything that can be done to encourage those people to get vaccinated, we should be trying to do. Governments across the country right now, both provincial and the federal government, are looking at is there a requirement for certain people to get vaccinated because they’re dealing with vulnerable populations, and I think that’s very much still in a state of flux.”
