Municipally-owned property at Westcourt Boulevard and Minnie Street in Wallaceburg is being considered for an affordable housing development.

Affordable housing could be coming to Wallaceburg.

During a special council meeting last night, municipal officials discussed a number of issues surrounding homelessness and the lack of options for low income households across Chatham-Kent.

Administration is now looking into the feasibility of developments on some parcels of municipally-owned lands, including the Westcourt Boulevard and Minnie Street area of Wallaceburg.

A consultant will be hired to provide design options and cost estimates for site servicing, construction, and environmental site remediation, if necessary.

The study will be funded from the Housing Services Operations reserve and through non-municipal sources, where available.

Municipal officials are also looking into the feasibility of building a new development at the corner of Park Avenue East and Park Street in Chatham, currently used by Public Works.
