In response to a marketing campaign encouraging local residents to move to Alberta, Chatham-Kent has launched a campaign of its own.
The Alberta provincial government recently began running radio ads in Chatham-Kent, highlighting Alberta’s job market, affordable housing, and lifestyle opportunities. The commercials are running in communities across Ontario, including London, Windsor, and Hamilton, as well as several cities in Atlantic Canada.
The municipality said it is now offering a friendly rebuttal by taking out radio ads in Calgary, which introduce Chatham-Kent and highlight reasons why the municipality is a great place to live.
“When we heard the Alberta radio ads, we knew we had to issue a friendly response letting Albertans know that Ontario, especially Chatham-Kent, are great places to live, work, and raise a family,” said Mayor Darrin Canniff in a news release.
In its radio ads, voiced by Greg Hetherington of CKXS FM, the municipality states that Chatham-Kent has many job opportunities, shorter commute times, and a warmer climate when compared to Alberta.
“We’re the fastest-growing community in Canada,” added Canniff. “We have a thriving local economy, very affordable housing, and a strong sense of community.”
The radio marketing campaign will run for two weeks in Calgary and will direct listeners to the WhyCK.ca website.
