With the arrival of summer-like weather in Chatham-Kent, municipal officials are preparing to help those most at risk keep cool.

Officials say in the event of extreme heat warnings over the coming months, Employment and Social Services is coordinating with municipal and community partners several cooling stations.

When a heat warning is issued, staff will post on the official Chatham-Kent Employment and Social Services social media accounts and email community partners to advise that the following locations will be available during regular business hours for anyone in need of relief.

  • Chatham Hope Haven located at 183 Wellington St. W., Chatham will be open every day from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm.
  • ROCK Missions located at 233 Nelson St. Wallaceburg will be open Monday to Friday from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm.
  • Municipality of Chatham-Kent offices in Blenheim, Chatham, Ridgetown, Tilbury, and Wallaceburg will be open Monday to Friday from 8:30 am – 4:30 pm. Their locations can be found at https://www.chatham-kent.ca/services/Pages/Contact-Us.aspx or call 311 to inquire.

  • Homeless persons, and/or those lacking shelter, water, or food

During extreme hot weather, residents are encouraged to call or visit friends and neighbours who may be at risk and keep pets inside.
