Starting next week, thousands of people will have to take a different route when trying to access the municipality from the 401.
The Highway 40 overpass over the 401 will be closed as of April 18th.
Chatham-Kent’s Director of Infrastructure and Transportation, Adam Sullo, says they’ve been meeting with the MTO for quite some time to mitigate the impacts.
“Our emergency services are well aware, they have plans in place, as well the MTO has detour signage on both sides,” Sullo says. “The access to Chatham and Blenheim will be through either Kent Bridge or Bloomfield Road exit.”
Sullo says sight-lines at the overpass have been a concern for quite some time, and the new structure will make the interchange safer.
The overpass will be closed until mid-November.
During that time, the Provincial Offenses Court and Harwich Transfer Station will remain open, however residents can pay fines at any Municipal Service Centre or online at www.paytickets.ca to avoid the detour
