Another project is in the works to make Chatham-Kent more colourful.
In a video posted to the Municipality’s Facebook page, Mayor Darrin Canniff has announced another public art project, this time to feature a mural on the side of Chatham-Kent Police Headquarters in downtown Chatham.
“We’re going to be doing a call for artists to find a local artist do something here,” Canniff explains. “We’re hoping by the end of the year we’re going to see something up here.”
The idea will be to blend art and community, fostering a deeper connection between the police force and the people they serve.
“As the guardians of our community, we want to make sure that we’re inclusive of our municipality,” says Police Chief Gary Conn. “We want pictures and art which are totally reflective of our community to adorn the side of our headquarters, which makes it more open and more receptive to all who attend our headquarters.”
Funds for the project will be allocated through the Hydro One Community Benefit program, which is designated for recreational and art projects.
Canniff says the goal is to have the mural finished by the end of the year.
The deadline for design submissions is 4pm on August 31st. Visit the Let’s Talk Chatham-Kent website for more details.
