Murder Charge Laid Following Altercation in Chatham

A charge of second degree murder has been laid after a man succumbed to injuries at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance.

According to Chatham-Kent Police, the 28-year-old victim, whose name has not been publicly released, went to hospital around 4 o’clock Friday afternoon, but despite the life-saving efforts, succumbed to his injuries
Authorities say the man had been in an altercation with another man at a home on Colborne Street in Chatham.

Police were able to identify a suspect and arrested a 35-year-old a short time later.

The accused was remanded into custody and will appear in court on Tuesday.

Police say this was an isolated incident and there is no concern for public safety.
